Pool; working from home together.

Project Overview

Along with the covid-19 pandemic, came the working from home revolution.

Most businesses are now operating and will continue to operate on a working from home basis. Being a designer, I fell into this category. As we all know now—there are so many benefits to working from home. Less commuting time and more time to focus on tasks without interuption only scratching the surface. However, working from home does not suit every professional. What about people who have just started a new job, people that have not yet integrated with their teams? How can one keep on top of tasks as easily as when they are surrounded by a team of peers and seniors? Pool aims to solve many of the issues that arrise for the average person working from home. For this case study, we will be focusing on a design / development team.

I began this project in April, 2020.

The Problem

Typically, when working from home - people face the following issues.

The Persona

In this case study, we can see how Jane, a newly hired front end developer wants these needs as a junior met, by using the pool platform with her colleagues.
1. Feedback & appreciation
2. Communication & social interaction
3. Clearly outlined short term & long term goals -
she is new so she doesnt want to be left completely to her own devices.
4. Integration - she wants github to be linked to her dashboard, so others can see what she's up to so there is no overlap.

The Solution

The Pool dashboard is an all encompassing overview of Janes day. A constant view of her upcoming meetings, her two project focuses for the week.

A daily bulliton is sent out by her team manager every morning, so immediately Jane knows what her focus is for the day on a larger company basis, not just on an individual project basis. Her notifications tab keeps track of all her mentions on the 3 projects she is currently involved in.

The project tab, lists out all of the projects Jane is involved in detail, in order of how far away their deadlines are or how far away to completion they are. The percentage is based out of how many tasks are set and completed on the individual project pages. The right hand side of each project shows the key events or tasks - like upcoming group meetings set up within that project. Any github respository can be accessed through the check out repository button. This is a huge help for jane, as she often can lose track of her branch names on github.

Pool Messages allows for easy communication between colleagues. The Side panel comprises of previously shared files, github branch links, upcoming meetings with eachother & more. Jane can reference internal projects with her peers by using hashtags in her messages.
